Equipment Export: How Heavy Equipment Moves from Shipper to the World

Exporting heavy equipment isn’t just about finding a buyer overseas—it’s about knowing how to move the equipment from the shipper’s site to the port and choosing the right export method. At Streamline Heavy Haul, we work with auction houses, dealers, and private sellers to make sure equipment is safely hauled inland, staged, and shipped affordably to its final destination.

Inland Hauling from the Shipper

The process begins at the shipper’s site—whether it’s an auction yard, dealership, or construction company. Using specialized trailers like RGNs and lowboys, we handle oversized and heavy equipment moves to the port of export. Permits, escorts, and scheduling are all coordinated to ensure compliance every step of the way.

Choosing the Right Export Method

Not every piece of equipment ships the same way. The right export method depends on the size, weight, and value of the cargo. Here are the most common options:

  • RORO (Roll-On/Roll-Off): Ideal for self-propelled machinery such as loaders, trucks, or tractors. The equipment is driven directly onto the vessel for cost-effective transport.

  • Standard Container: Smaller equipment can be containerized for affordable shipping. By dismantling or resizing, even larger machines can sometimes fit inside a 40’ container. This is often the most secure and cost-efficient option for exporters.

  • Open Top Container: When equipment is too tall for a standard container, an open-top option allows for overhead loading with cranes while still providing container protection.

  • Flat Rack: For oversized equipment, flat racks provide flexibility. The cargo is secured on a heavy-duty base that’s handled like a container but allows overhang. Rigging and heavy securement are required.

The Takeaway: Affordable & Reliable Equipment Export

By combining inland hauling, port coordination, and flexible export options, we make it possible for shippers—whether auction houses, dealers, or end users—to move heavy equipment worldwide. Containerization is often the most affordable choice, but we tailor the method to each piece of equipment to balance cost, security, and efficiency.
